PhD Study at HSU and the Centre for Osteopathic Research and Leadership (CORaL)
This session introduces doctoral study at Health Sciences University (HSU) and the work of the Centre for Osteopathic Research and Leadership (CORaL), with a specific focus on osteopaths balancing research with clinical practice.
The presentation will outline the full PhD journey: how to develop a viable research idea, application and entry requirements, supervision structures, research training, milestones and what doctoral study looks like in practice. Particular attention will be given to managing a PhD alongside clinical work as an osteopath, including realistic workload planning, integrating research with practice, and using clinical settings as sites of inquiry where appropriate.
Funding routes will be discussed, including self-funded pathways, professional body support, institutional schemes, and collaborative projects. The session will also address career trajectories following a PhD, spanning academia, research leadership, policy, education, and advanced clinical roles.
There will be time for Q&A to discuss individual ideas and circumstances.
